for a series of pics on what probably happened to the poor buggers on Biwa. What were they doing with 12 on the boat (can't be licenced for more than 10 unless it's over 28' and shouldn't be possible to turn over if it's any bigger than that. Not in today's winds that is...) and how come they hadn't put life jackets on the kids at least?
Hope they find them soon...

The Seabourn Spirit was carrying hundreds of people ... when pirates fired rocket-propelled grenades and machine-guns at they tried to board.
The ship was about 160 km off the coast of Somalia at the time.
The ship had a Long Range Acoustic Device, or LRAD, installed as a part of its defence systems, said Bruce Good, a spokesman for Miami-based Seabourn Cruise Line, a subsidiary of Carnival Corp.
The LRAD is a "non-lethal weapon" developed for the US military after the 2000 attack on the USS Cole off Yemen as a way to keep operators of small boats from approaching US warships.
... The military version of the weapon is a 45-20 kg dish-shaped device that can direct a high-pitched, piercing tone with a tight beam. Neither the LRAD's operators or others in the immediate area are affected.
Makers of the LRAD compare its shrill tone to that of smoke detectors, only much louder. It can be as loud as about 150 decibels, while smoke alarms are about 80 to 90 decibels . . . more

I want one of these installed in my car and activated by the horn - but a short range one ("SRAD") - for those drivers who cross me.
