Keitai unlocking in Tokyo?

Postby Caustic Saint » Sat Sep 10, 2005 6:16 pm

Anybody have any experience with getting a keitai unlocked here?

I've got a 3g phone from Vodafone that I bought back in May, but after not liking it so much I changed back to my original 2g model. I'd like to get the 3g one (a Sony-Ericsson V800se) unlocked to I could use it while traveling.

I've found one site that offers unlocking services, but wanted to ask and see if anybody had any info about getting this done.

What did all the website you found when you searched Google have to say about it?

Well, he did provide a link...

so.. for the 802SE is that y2800 their price for unlocking the sim (and y500 for postage) and the figure of y35,500 is what vodafone would normally charge to unlock it or is that how much they sell unlocked models for?

looks like y3000 to remove the shutter noise for all the ninja shot-ters

whats with that y7800 for mp3 software modification??

I'm not sure. I paid about \15,000 for the phone. (Couldn't get it at the new subscriber price. :( )

I don't care about the shutter noise, since the camera on the phone's not very good. The one on my Mitsubishi phone (v401D) is much better.

The MP3 stuff doesn't matter to me, what with having a new iPod nano and all. :D What they'll do is remove the crippleware that'll allow you to put regular MP3s on the phone, and then listen to them with headphones and/or use them for ringtones. Amusing, but not worth what they're asking.

And while I get what the site I linked to had to say, what I was wanting to know is if anybody had ever gotten a keitai unlocked here, or knew of any other places that did it.

Come on Caustic, you know the rules-of-Fight-Club here.

Absolutely no warez or otherwise illegal links or discussion will be permitted. This includes "theoretical" discussions and euphemistic references. A few of the prohibited topics include:

bootlegs or illegal downloads of commercial software, movies, music
making backups or copies of copyrighted material
filesharing copyrighted material
decrypting or bypassing copy-protection
modchips
roms

I fail to see how unlocking a phone falls into this category. I own the phone free and clear, it's no longer under contract with Vodafone, and I'm not asking about ripping off their service or cloning somebody else's phone to make free calls.

I just want it unlocked so I can use it when I travel (with prepaid SIM cards).

The Vodafone Japan says you cannot unlock their phones under the terms of sale. Yes Vodafone Japan is full of shit, but that's the terms of the contract you bought it under.

So that would be a breach of contract, rather than straight out contravention of copyright laws wouldn't it? (I don't know much about telephone technology and what it takes to 'unlock' them).

Surely we can discuss breach of contract in a theoretical way here can't we?
