Japan Spends More on Cell Phones Than Fixed Lines for 1st Time
Tokyo, Feb. 2 (Bloomberg) -- Japanese households spent more on mobile phone services than for fixed lines for the first time last year, the telecommunications ministry said.

Households headed by salaried workers paid an average of 6,159 yen ($51.40) a month to use their cell phones, almost double compared with 2000, and about 4,600 yen for fixed phone lines...

The popularity of asymmetric digital subscriber lines services, or ADSL, for Internet connections may have reduced spending on fixed phone lines...
