Softbank X02HT any good?

Postby Phaedrus441 » Fri Dec 21, 2007 10:08 pm

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum, so go easy on me!

Anyway, I know Softbank has the promotion right now to change from another carrier and get 10,000 yen cash back, plus a referral for a friend. So, I am REALLY tempted by the X02HT (the HTC Cavalier). I know it came out a year ago in the rest of the world, but it still seems pretty sweet in Japan...

Just the data plan (according to the fellow at the Softbank store) is over 9,000 yen.

So, is it worth it? The phone itself is only 700+ yen/month for a 2 year contract.

Also, and these are probably the most important things to me, can I use Skype on it? Can I load applications? Can I unlock it for use when I travel?

Thanks thanks thanks!

I haven't any idea about your question, but that style/layout of cell phone is sure appeals to me too. The X02HT has WiFi so that makes Skype attractive. Last Sept and October all the Japanese blogs were saying that Skype did not work.

English forums for the X02HT in asia are crying too that Skype has been sabotaged.

forum.skype.com-----.I found a quick fix for this problem! It's far from working but better then nothing.
This is a new program call Fring, that you can download from --> http://www.fring.com/
It's a 3th party program for using your skype, It's free too. Sign up, then add your Skype account.
And you can start making calls.
If your HTC is the Softbank version like mine, you need to have run the Application Unlocker.
NOW... The bad news.
Fring is still in Beta stage, and there are still MANY Bugs..

Which carrier are you on right now?

I've been on Au/KDDi for ages and have been pretty happy with it - except for the charges.

Both the HTC Cavalier and the Softbank pricing plans look attractive to me too - however, I'm wary of quality issues like voice quality and coverage.

Can any current Softbank users tell us whether those problems have been resolved since SB took over Vodafone?

I was interested in this phone also, but the fact that you need to subscribe to the 10000 yen data plan to use WiFi turned me off. So much for free internet access...
