Ink for home printers is now seven times more expensive than vintage champagne. Ink in a typical replacement cartridge costs about 1.70 pounds per millilitre, compared with 1985 Dom Perignon at 23p per millilitre.

I've found Canon to have some of the cheapest prices out of the top makers of ink printers. Their ink is the cheapest that I have found other than off-brand makers

The reason Canon ink tends to be considerably cheaper than other brands is that on a Canon inkjet printer, the printheads are part of the printer, not the ink cartridge. This can lead to needing to clean the printer more often, since you're not getting a new printhead every time you change the cartridge.

That said, I really like my Canon i320. Less than $50 shipped and it works great. I only use it for light duty, but the print quality is quite nice on plain inkjet paper whether I'm printing photos, text or line art from Illustrator.

There just isn't any rational reason why INK is so expensive other then greed. I got off the ink jet kick a long time ago andgot a color laser printer, but wait till all 4 laser toners need to be filled at the same time. Ouch
