i have tried to figure this out using official sources but have made zero progress.


I have a monthly suica that the wife uses on the weekend and then forgets to return:confused: I have been looking for a way to clone it into my mobile using the osaifu keitai function but have had no luck. Anyone been able to to do this?

If you mean you have a commuter pass suica, unfortunately there is no way to clone it. At least no legal way, and I haven't even heard of an illegal way. Obviously that would lead to the chance of the same pass being used by multiple people at the same time. So the system was designed so stored fare or commuter pass data can't be shared across multiple IC chips.

If your idea is just to get her commuter pass transferred to your osaifu keitai (cancelling the old card), I think that is possible. I believe you will need to get a refund for the remaining time on the old suica, and then set up a new monthly pass on your phone.

If I wanted to scam the system I would just storm the gate or hop the fence like we used to do back home.

You can't clone the card in the way you want. Each card has a unique identifier in it (chip). As OM mentioned already, if you could clone the card then the same card could be used by more than one person at the same time. Hell, if you could clone it once you could clone it 100x or 1000x... I think you get the picture.

Your wife using your card is scamming the system. I'm not judging you, but if the train company checks her pass and finds that it doesn't belong to her (unlikely of course) they will confiscate it.

Really? Wow, I did not know there was a restriction that only the registered person can use the pass. I just peeked at the rules (http://www.jreast.co.jp/suica/rule/index.html) and my head started to spin so I gave up, but I couldn't find anything obviously that said this was not allowed. I've never used a Suica teiki-ken, but in the past Mrs. Omae Mona and I have shared bus passes sometimes. When I signed up,they explicitly asked if I wanted my name on the pass, and I said no. I assumed that since they gave me a choice, one reason might be so people can share the pass. Maybe I assumed wrong, and anyway, Suica rules might be different.

Really? Wow, I did not know there was a restriction that only the registered person can use the pass.

If it is a prepaid pass (ie a replacement for buying individual tickets) then I doubt there are any restrictions.

From wuchan's description though his is a commuter pass (teiki), in which case there is most definitely a restriction on who can use it -- the owner only.
