Is there a way to sync a Softbank phone to OSX? I have a Panasonic 930P and would love to sync it to my Mac, but all I can find is the Windows version of Softbank Desktop Utility.
Yes, but it isn't pretty. None of the carriers show love to mac users.
To use the free softbank software, you will need to run the exe with darwine. It is best to compile it from source, which if you don't ever compile anything, could be a real compile fest since you may have to first compile a compiler, etc. There is a binary available.
It may or may not work because wine isn't perfect. If it doesn't work, there could be a number of reasons. I'm not an expert with wine, so won't be of much help.
Or, you can buy Keitai Sync for Mac, which more or less works.
Your phone is supported, scroll way down on this page.
Whatever you do, make a backup of your address book on the mac before syncing. Because the phone does not have separate fields for first and last name, it will 99.9999% make a mess out of your Mac's address book, with names duplicated in either the first or last name field.
EDIT: now that I think about it, trying to use wine could be a big, frustrating pile of fail because, even if the exe runs flawlessly, it may only be designed to sync with outlook. May work to back up your phone or copy stuff to your mac, though. You can always get an Android
Great! Thanks so much for pointing me in the right direction. This is a big help. Have you used this program? What are the issues I may have with it?
I gave wine a try with IE8 and had no luck or fun and am not looking forward to wine again. I would love to run my windows Office 2003 on my Mac though...
