I got this in an email today, and thought I'd share it.



This photo was taken this week at a popular hang-out place in the Philippines. Two friends had their photo taken using the 7250 phone (the one with the built-in camera). This was what appeared on the photo. "Someone" was holding on to the arm of one of the girls. She did not see nor feel anything. The girls screamed when they saw this.

In one word: CMOS

The cheap CMOS camera CCD built into keitai-camwill hold an after-image in that low-light night shot with bright light behind the subject. At this moment I'm editing/re-writing the DoCoMo Mova manual. That 619-page "pocket guide"(?!) warns:

If you attempt to shoot directly into a bright light source, especially in the nighttime, pictures may be damaged, blur, or burn in and corrupt the next shot.

Ah, so it's a mild "burn-in" that holds over until the next shot? Makes sense, but I'd imagine they were still a tad freaked by the pic.
