Google+

Have any of you out there tried Google+? I friend-ed several of my Facebook contacts and linked with them on Google+. I was trying it out of curiosity. I have a total of just 20 connections on + but gawd, I seem to get 10 unsolicited friend requests on + from people whom I have no connections what so ever and have never heard of.

Any of you have a + account and see the same thing? If I don't know 'em -- I don't friend 'em. :flame: Just about ready to close the + account.

I tried Google+ but other than being not!facebook I really didn't see much of the appeal.

Just try to do that: You can't escape the Great G+.
Quitting G+ hasn't stopped some of G+ notifications.
I quit Google+ after one week (because it was generating a couple hundred of Google+ brainfart messages every week). However, there's some sort of bug(feature) in G+ that has continued to send me a couple of G+ member updates/notifications to my Gmail account even after I quit. I could ask the G+ sender to manually take me off their Google+ list but that's a rather rude thing to ask Japanese client so I now just route the dribble of lingering Google+ notifications to my spam filter.

I have a friend who works at Google who asked me to join + right when they released the beta version. I don't really use it much but I don't have any problems with spam and have only received one friend request from someone I didn't know.

I was invited to the Google+ beta through an on-line friend from a Q&A site and was interested in it as not being Facebook. But I quickly figured out that it is different. To get anything out of Google+, you need to follow interesting people (most likely that you don't know). Being followed by others really isn't that important (and following others isn't really any sort of "commitment"). It's good for communicating with tech people, photographers and such. But if you are only interested in following people you already know, it's a hard sell.

Similar situation here. Been on since beta (just to register an account, don't use it), and I've only gotten a request from one person I don't know.
No problem with SPAM whatsoever.

I was on G+ a bit...

The problem is that they tried the limited beta horseshit like they did for Gmail... making people drool over it... But unlike GMail... G+ is worthless if empty...

Fartbook at first got the prestige of being for uni student only as opposed to the drooling idiots from Myspace... Then took over... not because it was better... just because myspace was catastrophically worse...

Up until last week when I closed my account FB had become a total pita... it's needed to stay easily in contact with several groups of friends... BUT it's developped and managed soo poorly that it will die really quick as soon as a usable alternative emerge. It's not without reason that it's one of the most hated website today [citashiun needed]. It abuse it's usefullness to allow the sadistic tendencies of that bloke who stole the idea from them winklevoss twinz... It's one thing to have its userbase as the real product (sold to annoucers), it's another one to let it show too much with such arrogance...

Now if diaspora could stop looking like a scam it would be nice...
(still nothing to show and now begging for money... yeah sure...)

What's needed is a seamless synchronisation tool between social sites... if either one meta application post everywhere without user worry or if another site also takeover the transition phase by keeping posts and relationship it could be the end of the marketting based social networking and the start of the user based social network... I think we really need governement intervention for this to happen...
