Calling all Colignys! Solar-powered mp3 player with a speaker?

Postby nikoneko » Fri May 11, 2012 9:03 pm

Has anybody ever seen or heard of anything like this here? I have a friend who is an artist and musician in Holland and he is looking to buy a 100 or so of them for a project. I've been looking with mixed results online, but wanted to ask before I made the trip to den-den town in Osaka.

Like this but solar-powered

And now, the stupid answer:

They seems to work on 2xAA or AAA for around 3v... Check how much mA it needs and hit the bay for solar panels...
(but ebay seems to have some models for in car players)

Thanks I thought of that too, it might be cheapest to just buy one big solar panel and build some kind of distribution system.

I'll take a look at ebay too, might be good for some ideas.

And actually my guess is they don't actually need to be solar power but he is just wanting them to stay on all the time and that is all he thought of.

Instead of solar cells, that Holland buddy should turn into LEDs, because the LED scene for invention and manufacturing is not (quite) yet taken over and dominated by some small amount of major conglomerates, like the solar cells are already (please not not believe in any of the institutional bullshit, this business field is nowadays indeed well taken care of by the players).

The LED semiconductor Substrate is still in need of serious development, the same is with the Bulb: silicone polymer alone in itself is a bit awkward in terms of developing power.

Nanodiamonds are used for improved heat conductivity for both, however in the case of composite there could be water residue involved, and what more, not all of the nanodiamonds are actually nanodiamonds.

That 4...6 nm for a raw material is indeed a dream, unless properly treated AND classified for compatibility for a bulb, or for the substrate.

A wild power-LED manufacturer appears in the market, after a year they suddenly vanish.

Pretty much about the same thing why off-the-shelf carbon fiber fabric as a floor/roof heater element does not apply in a long run, no matter how great the idea is in the beginning. Check it out.

Thanks for reading.

:???:

I am not quite sure how this would be an incentive to a Dutch artist / musician to go into LEDs. First of all, he is Dutch, meaning that he is a lazy bum when it comes to technology. Then, there is of course also the artist / musician part...

Just as an aside, it appears that the goal is to have 100 MP3 players play continuously without the need for an external power source. How could he shine in that area by pursuing a career in LED fabrication development?!?

LMAO

Also Russell your first sentence answered Coligny's post. I'll try to hit him up for more info as soon as I can. For now the main thing is to find as cheap as possible mp3 players like the ones in the picture. He is just pricing the whole thing now.

I was just wondering whether he wanted to place these mp3 players near each other, or at significant distances. Depending on that you may need one (small) solar panel for each player rather than one big panel for all players.

Yeah. I believe in their efficiency to make light... not to generate electricity, cure cancer, or solve impotency...

Ah, no... I was indeed a bit too drunk, and there suddenly appeared a topic involving industrial photovoltaics. A bad combination in my case, kinda bad flashback on my behalf.
