Good energy vibes from Bosozoku & Uyoku

And you thought Uyoku sound trucks, political screamers on PAs and Bosozoku were totally useless...
New power source: wall vibrations
November 13, 2003 / The Christian Science Monitor
Imagine using a computer that runs on energy generated from your building's wall and window vibrations. Masayuki Miyazaki, a senior researcher at Hitachi Co. Ltd.'s central lab in Tokyo, is trying to do just that... a tiny generator that converts building movements into electricity, creating enough energy to run a temperature or light sensor once an hour...

Aren't most building vibrations caused by wind? I think it would be a wee bit more worthwhile to just build some windmills with generators that run things a little more complex than temperature sensors... You know, like cities.

It is about efficiency. Setting up a wind generating unit and then sending the electricty to power something as tiny as light sensor at a remote location doesn't make sense from an efficiency standpoint. The scientist is instead saying, why not utilize something inherent within the building to generate power and reduce maintenance costs? By itself it might not mean much but if other ideas come along they could add up into something substantial.

There's a problem with urban wind generators] keitai no enjo kosei [/i] would ever be allowed in Tokyo. The economy would "wilt."
