MVNOs (Pre/postpaid cell phone service)

Postby cewong2 » Thu Nov 19, 2015 3:26 am

So this past year I've seen a large number of new MVNOs start up on docomo's service. Has anyone used them? How have they been? I'm looking at maybe using freetel 's one because they advertise up to 10gb service with voice for3000 yen add call waiting and voicemail is another 900 yen, or something like that.

I like freetel's service from what I see right now is because they don't do that stupid throttling shit over 3 days. And softbanks new sum anoxia plan is not hodai anything especially since I rarely use the phone to make calls, (go-figure, a product where we don't use its main feature)

I've also seen so-net's lte service too, but that seemed limited to like 300mb per day, I want to stream my Netflix dammit. I'll probably keep my uq WiMAX router though, so far I like the unlimited mobile bandwidth, but having the option on the phone is nice too when there is no service, granted the 1000yen extra lte service on Au has been handy sometimes.

Well looking to see if anyone has tried and to see what their experience is like.

JP has been pretty slow in the MVNO field and usually when they do something that exists in other countries is very different it's just recently they starts allowing voice on MVNOs

Coligny if you're interested too, the one I've been looking at is www.freetel.jp/sim

So I made the jump from my SoftBank prepaid to the freetel MVNO. Only 2 days but service wise is not bad. I did a speed test and it's pretty good, 600+KB/s up and down, and this is not full bars, (my house likes to block out some signal) so it's pretty good LTE, now it is basically docomo, and you get a docomo sim. One thing to note is you don't get a man bike email address, so no MMS. I'll test send one over the next few days, but I doubt that it will work. I had to manually set up the APN, but you can get that information from their website.

They have an interesting IP phone service too that basically halves the rate of phone calls. It states that sound quality is he same as regular phone service, and afaic tell there's no degradation.

Their internal page is a little bare, and not much can be done through it, it does have an active count of data usage so you can keep within tiers if you want. They also have a self throttle service so that you can also keep wishing data. Those are pretty instant set buttons, but if you want to change plans or add on services you have to go through their contact form.

Another thing to note, is that if you plan to MNP your ur number, you'll have to shell out 2000-3000 yen to your provider. It seems for as much as the industry is progressing it's still so much further behind the US and EU, with these hidden/gouging charges.

IHTS that if you can MNP on an MVNO PDQ then it is PFG even if you have to PTTN, in MYHOMO.

With obvious apologies to Grammar Rock for turning all those lovely nouns into verbs.

You are supposed to wait for the magic month between end of current contract and shackles being automatically applied for the next 2 years.
Only 3000円 at that time isn't it? It is with Softbank anyway. I have to wait until March...

The good thing to note is there are no contracts, so porting afterwards won't have that issue, freetel charges 2000 yen for the port though.
