....Visitors at the NIAS laboratory in Tsukuba, about 70 kilometers northeast of Tokyo, may be surprised to see silkworms genetically modified with the fluorescent genes of jellyfish and corals. When light is focused on them, their heads shift right and left while the glow of their eyes changes subtly.
"Aren't they cute?" asked Toshiki Tamura, 55, chief of the team of NIAS' Insect Biotechnology and Sericology Department.
