Now who is dumbing down the inteligence of wome I or Epson(even the female designers)

I was mearly highlighting that the article is relying on a bad stereotype by saying another. [nobody really understands how deep I am, angst...]

Besides the thing looks like a barbie beauty box. It just looks gay.

GG do you see where I am coming from now?

Actually I was just having a lend of you.. of course I saw where you were coming from. Apparantly you didn't see my cheeky double entrendre either?

I happen to agree with you that certain gender specific marketing is not helpful but it is just because of a poor understanding of good marketing practices than anything more sinister.

For the savvy consumer, good design and features is always a winner, but the packaging and marketing will determine the segmentation - a good product can span multiple segments. Painting something pink and slapping a "designed for women" is poor design and marketing and will ensure a very short shelf life. But some products are OK for a short shelf life - eg mobile phones where image is everything but the internal workings and technology can be fairly similar - thus reducing development costs but altering the cosmetic appearance can open a new market segment. (Recently I saw a snow board with a Winnie the Poo motif that was popular on the Nagano slopes.. tragic but it appeals to a particular market)

You see this sort of segmentation whenever a market is maturing and being saturated.. eg mobile phones, printers..

Actually I feel a bit sorry for modern marketers with a traditionally "female" product. They haven't quite managed to "find the button" for the single, professional 30 something chick.. eg Sex in the City types. This segment usually has a high disposable income that they like to spend but are not interested in the "traditional" roles that were easy to market products.. eg laundry detergent, dishwashing liquid that doesn't dry your hands, cars to carry the kids around in.. etc.

For an example of this, see the somewhat cheesy and unsubtle movie "What women want" with Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt. It rams the message home a little too hard (typical hollywood style) but it was interesting as the issues facing the advertising issues are quite real.

Hang on ...

The printer has a large handle on it. And so does ...

The point is love, the difference between a product marketed for women and the product marketed for ... errr ... everyone is that the women's version has a big handle on it.

You know, like the oversized handle on the printer, and the oversized handle on the Gillette Razor For Women. Geddit?

Is Wednesday an offday for referential logic?

I think he got your meaning the first time..

(I didn't see the point you were trying to make either... unless it was a phallus reference.. So are long handled screw drivers marketed at women too?)

Thats just :karma2:

However, most guys have fantasized about a woman that would do anything she was told.

Unlike most guys, I've lived out that fantasy.

Real life is more fun. The fantasy is worthless.

Oh well, you have to admit that it's funny at some level-I find the fact that someone actually took time to make that remote funny.

I was making a "phallic object improvisation" reference. I thought that may have been where you were going with the "big handle" line.

Hell, the Nintendo Gamecube has a handle on it, but it's not marketed towards women.

If you want to know, though, the handle on the razor was designed that way because women hold razors in their hands differently than how men do when shaving their faces. Ever seen a woman shave her legs? Try holding your razor like than next time you're shaving and see how well it works out. Conversely, ask a woman to hold a razor the way you do and see how torn up her legs get.

Oh, I see.

No, I wasn't thinking that far ahead to make a phallic reference, just stating the connection.

Come to think of it though, I have big handles and women aren't magically attracted to me ... :eeh:
