no phone line, how do I get good internet?

sorry , i know we have been over this 100 times and i should have taken notes but... i didn't and now my cheap ass is paying by the hour in an internet cafe trying to figure it out from the archives and failing. my apt has no phone which i heard is really expensive to get installed and yahoo bb requires a phone! Any other options? I am a total addict; I need one flat fee for unlimited broadband usage.

You help is very much appreciated! I don't mind researching stuff, just looking for a couple clues to start! I am in Tokyo.

Man-o-man, sniff your Tokyo neighborhood for open WiFi ports. If not available at your home, drag your laptop to couple of local coffee shops and sniff an open WiFi port there. Caustic Saint taught me the WiFi habit and now I can wardrive/walk and sniff an open WiFi port in less than 10 minutes anywhere in downtown Tokyo or Yokohama.

If you want to cut down your hourly rate at the manga kissaten, consider staying overnight and using the "Night Pack".
Depending on the place, this is between 1000 and 1500 yen and usually gets you 11pm-6am or even longer.
Details are usually written at the counter or else ask the staff. Since you only need to know the price and time, even phrase book Japanese should get you there.

My offices uses KDDI mobile phone operator AU has "CDMA 1X WIN" wireless access of 2.4Mbps down and 144Kbps up flat rate with my office laptop for troubleshooting and flat-rate is 2,100 yen/m. http://www.au.kddi.com/english/win/index.html

That's the standard price IF your building's management has a group contract.

However, note that CATV-Cable Internet require a shared connection meaning it can slow down to near zero at peak times. No NTT charges....but CATV-Cable Internet may require all the apartments/condos in building to be wired. Some CATV-Cable Internet bundles don't include e-mail, may be billed on a per-connected-PC basis, & start-up costs can be high.
