September 7, 2004 - 9:31AM / Tokyo - - - -
Softbank Corp., Japan's largest Internet provider, has complained that its plan to offer a new mobile phone service could be thwarted by the government's refusal to provide the necessary bandwidth ...[for]... a third-generation cellular phone service utilising CDMA2000 technology.
... the telecommunications ministry's decision to allocate the key 800mhz band exclusively to NTT DoCoMo, the nation's largest cellphone service provider, and to KDDI Corp, the second-largest cellphone company, was blocking Softbank from launching the service. ....
.... Softbank, using its subsidiary Japan Telecom, is also challenging the landline market dominated by the nation's top carrier Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT), parent of NTT DoCoMo.
