NTT + Asahi Net = BS DSL

I used to have YahooBB in my apartment and it was running pretty smoothly, at speeds of around 400 kbyte/sec.
Now for some reason my boss wanted to change it to Asahi Net, and for a few weeks, that's what I had now. It is a mess. The first thing that went wrong is when I told NTT we wanted a router-type modem, they sent us a normal one. So now my wireless router has to relay the login/pwd to the modem. That works, but I keep getting disconnected every so often and yesterday it was so bad, I got disconnected every few minutes. Today it seems pretty stable.
The speed is at about 200kybte/sec. although I have the 8 MBit course.
I switched to the 47 MBit one now - it will take 12! days to change. NTT charges over 3000 Yen to make the switch.

Could NTT-based ADSL really have slower connection speeds than Yahoo? Does Yahoo charge for switching speeds?
Why does Asahi even have PPPoE authentication, with Yahoo, I never needed a login/pwd, it just worked.

Why does Asahi even have PPPoE authentication, with Yahoo, I never needed a login/pwd, it just worked.

I myself dont know the Y!BB biz offerings (I think I will look into them myself now)
but I can say that there is probably a better solution with Y!BB -- if not now, coming soon.

What I do know is:

Yes NTT based ADSL could easily be slower. MOF likely is - but unsubstantiated. The performance of your ADSL is based upon 2 factors
= the DSLAM (at the NTT office) which sends/recieves the signal
= the Modem

Currently Y!BB has the most modern DSLAM lineup. Which means they get better range and perf.
I suspect that NTT utilizes the same DSLAM's from 3-4 years ago. I will look into see if I can find out what they use. But they likely use what Y!BB uses on their low end (8M, 12M)
Further if they dont proof their modems then you are stuck with their crap.
This I think is probably done by all major providers.

Yahoo!BB just distributes Global IP's to terminals on its network.
I think PPoE does something so they dont have to have so many global IP's.
Global IP's are expensive.

BTW: Are you really using *DSL at work? If you are you should use 2 from different providers It will offer a more stable service. There are configurable modems for multiple connections available.
