While you're compiling all the info, would you mind sharing anything you know, can find out about Docomo? I was gonna snag an unlocked 4S and not sure whether I should use DoCoMo or AU. Although, it seems like the fix is in, and there's not much difference either way between any of the carrier plans.

Thank you SDH! Listen I know Steve Jobs was a very intelligent man, and he did lead a company that introduced some very cool and useful items, but the way the MSM has gone crazy over his death is absurd! Either Time or Newsweek decided to scrap their entire issue for a retrospect on his life, CNN and all the other media networks are falling all over themselves to see who can glorify him more.

LOL

Nothing against apple here (love my ipod and ipad) but when it comes to cell phones, iphone screens are just too damn small and the specs aren't keeping up with what Android handsets are offering. Not saying they're bad or anything, just not the cutting edge. (though the pricing on them may lead you to believe otherwise)

synchronize my songs with itunes and be plugged on my car boomin system and operated by the head unit and steering wheel controls...

synchronize my bookmarks with xmarks.

play movie from my desktop computer with airvideo...

have the same straight to function no bullshit approach as my mac.

I'm not saying anything bad against the Volvo FH16, that's a fooking good truck. It's not just what you can do, but how you do it. And with the Ios devices... For everything you can do, you don't need to think 'how' you just start doing...

As of now... from system administration to race sims, flight sims or everyday wanking, there is not a single function missing to me.

you wouldn't believe how thick the skin of a Mac user can grow with the time...

to sum up... go ahead, glorify your plateform or shit on mine... meanwhile i've got stuff to do with it...

quick summary:
apple is not for enterprise
apple is dying
apple was boughtby microsoft anyway
the mouse have only 1 button
there is no floppy drive
there is just usb ports, nothing is available in USB
you can't upgrade the hardware
you can't 'choose' your components
the ipod only work with itunes nobody will buy it
you can't replace the ipod battery nobody will buy it
nobody would watch movies on ipod touch the screen is too small
the ipad don't even have a keyboard
the ipad don't have expansion slots

all are more or less true (albeit some are really stupid)
But none of them a relevant or show stoppers...

Onceagain, the FH16 can do all the same thing as a Veyron in its daily use... even more...

But if you don't understand why it's a better experience in the Veyron... Ah can do nothing fer you...

They have android apps that do all that now. (yes, as in pretty much emulate an apple device and sych with apple software)

I've always looked at it as if you want simple and easy to use, go with an iphone. If you like modifying the hell out your phone and want the bleeding edge, you go with an android. (same idea with MAC/PC)

Itunes sucks and I hate having to use it with my iPod. Have you ever tried to get music OUT of an iPod? Android is drag and drop, no need to "sync" (which takes longer)

Coligny wrote:synchronize my bookmarks with xmarks.

I have a mac, and have had macs for many years, and I don't have the slightest clue what "xmarks" are. As far as book marks, if you have gmail this bookmark transfer issue is nonexistent.

Coligny wrote:play movie from my desktop computer with airvideo...

the only movie I can't figure out how to play on my phone is .mkv files. I have a feeling that if I search around the net I will find a way.

After this kind of 12y/o quality rethoric... not much time to lose with you here...

i hope you enjoy hating iTunes, searching the web for playing mkv... or transfering song from the ipod (which is explicitly not supported) syncing your bookmarks with Gmail (le what ?)... And not having a clue aboot one of the best cross browser and cross plateform bookmark syncing site... after all, masochists are consumers too...

Softbank is pushing their "superior" data transfer speeds (compared to au) in an attempt to maintain/appeal to iPhone customers.
However, according to this chart, the actual speeds are different (with Softbank coming out behind au and docomo).
Download (orange) and upload (yellow) tests were made using the following phones:
au (AQUOS PHONE IS11SH), docomo (GALAXY S II SC-02C), and SoftBank (iPhone4) on 3G lines (WiMAX at the right is much faster).
(Testing was between 8/22 - 29, 2011)

One big (for me) question remains... Will AU allow the personnal area network function of the IPhone ?

(the one where an IPhone can be used as a bridge for up to 5 devices without jailbreaking, standard apple provided internet connection sharing)

Work with the $200 in apps that I already have?

I'm an Apple fan (bought my first one new in '94), but not a fanboi. For instance, I love the Apple laptops (especially the Magsafe adapter which has saved me thousands in laptop replacements), but think their desktop products (aside from the Mini) are massively overpriced.

I had several (mostly WM smart hoes) before my iPhone, and they were slow and unstable out of the box. You could improve a few things by cooking a custom ROM, but for the most part I ended up with a customized but even more unstable phone. My old iPhone was JB and unlocked. It unfortunately had enough of my abuse and bricked about 5 months shy of 2 years. The out-of-warranty replacement I have now is JB'd, but has a newer unlockable baseband, otherwise I'd be using it here in Japan right now.

I've thought a lot about the Galaxy S II, but I'm semi-invested in apps, my brother designed an awesome iPhone 4/4S case and I'd love to sport his work on my phone, and I'm not sure about the ability of the Galaxy IIS to unlock/operate fully if or when I go back home. I decided to wait to see what the iPhone 5 had to offer, and I'm a bit disappointed with the 4S (I'd like a larger screen), but other than some extra features on some Google apps, there's nothing that compelling on the Galaxy. Expandable storage would be nice, but I've never bothered to use it all that much when I had it and going to 32gb from my current 16gb should allow me all my apps and music with space to spare.

I'm perfectly happy to go with AU (Softbank sucks where I am, AU is decent, DoCoMo seems to be the winner), but I'm not going to buy a carrier locked phone. So I'm waiting for the unlocked phones to become available, and the only carrier I know of that accepts unlocked iPhones is DoCoMo. If AU will give me a sim and normal pakehodai iPhone plan for an unlocked non-Japanese 4S I'd happily go that route as the only friends I care about talking to are AU.

Aha, this explains it. Had an MRI awhile back and the doc said my back was fine, but he couldn't explain the Angry Birds score in my knee...

In other news, I used the online Softbank user form to request that an antenna be placed in a nearby mountain area where some of my wife's relatives live (I get zero reception up there).
SBM was nice enough to respond, saying in super polite J-speak that basically, it ain't gonna happen anytime soon. But, hey, we'll keep it in mind for future reference.

Did you reply back in super polite J-speak that you would be switching to Docomo and advising everyone in your area to do the same, now aware that Softbank had no plans to install an antennae there?

Actually, I did try to respond, but SMS from Softbank are read-only, so, no luck.

nice time frame... sort of like Furetsu where they say they'll be at your pad sometime between 1400 and 1800 to set up your shit... but you end up getting a phone call at 1830 to tell you that they can't make it and will be at your place the next day around the same time... That's new functionality in the Iphone 4s....the radiation hotspot, it allows you to tether up to 5 mobile devices via wi-fi and gives you a hot dose of fun from Fukushima.
