Where to get multi-region DVD player?

News, shopping tips and discussion of all things tech: electronics, gadgets, cell phones, digital cameras, cars, bikes, rockets, robots, toilets, HDTV, DV, DVD, but NO P2P.

I'll just get a $99 AppleTV box and stream my stuff wirelessly from my computer.

I see no need for a BlueRay disc player for the "Extras"
I will not abide ignorant intolerance just for the sake of getting along.

Old thread - new question.

Need a new DVD player. Looked on Amazon Japan and saw some Pioneer ones that were reasonable as well as sony. Googled and found that the US versions of these were region free but not sure on the Japan ones.

Are these OK? Which one should I choose? Need it to take USB, HDMI and also to play DivX and DVD's from foreign lands.

This Sony one or this Pioneer one or this cheapy Pioneer one?

This is not for my home - I just need it to work.

I would chose the Pioneer DV-420V-K. Sony is shyte and the other Pioneer is too cheap for comfort.

It looks like I might need to reflash the firmware to rejigger it for region free. I could only find a windows hack though.

Is this hard to do?
