Hitachi to Introduce Tiny Drive
The New York Times, September 2, 2005
In the race to make ever-smaller disk drives for hand-held consumer appliances, Hitachi Ltd. will announce today that it has matched Seagate Technologies with what it says is the smallest drive on the market, a one-inch-diameter hard drive that holds eight gigabytes of data.
But Hitachi says its own version will be distinguished by a new technology that senses when the hard drive is being dropped, a feature that could be attractive in often-dropped cellphones....more...

I love my 5GB microdrive... Holds lotsa photos, even RAW.

An iPod Mini with 8GB would be nice too.
And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

My iPod has become a photo dump too.

Actually I bought a 5GB Creative Labs player and pulled out the drive for use in my DSLR. :D I have a bunch of flash cards, but with 5GB I can easily go a full weekend without having *any* worries about running out of space.

Indeed the quantum computing breakthrough is very cool. I really wonder how far along the US Military is with this sort of work... That sounds like something from a conspiracy nut I am sure, but at one point in the past they were about 20 years ahead on encryption/decryption algorithms and theory. No idea if it has remained that way or not though.
