Japanese Guilty Of Dumping HD Cams?

Postby mr. sparkle » Tue Jul 18, 2006 4:41 am

Europe's only broadcast camera manufacturer, Thomson Grass Valley, says Japanese professional and broadcast video cameras are selling within Europe at lower prices than they can be bought for in Japan. If the complaint is upheld, the European Union could impose an import tariff of up to 200% on camera imports, to protect European manufacturer interests.

[floatr]Image[/floatr]Wait a minute! Japanese Corporations? Dumping product? Charging more for goods and services to their own people than to those abroad?

Nah....they'd never do that! ;-)

More here.

BTW, How much is, say, a Sony Z1 camcorder in Japan? Can I get a price check from Llaox or the like?

If that tarrif is imposed the European videographer will be the one to suffer. They'll be forced to use crappy Thompson cameras. Japan can retaliate by imposing tarrifs on, let's say...hmmm, WINE or cheese or Engrish teachers.

Interesting to see what comes of this though. I heard that lots of Sony cameras are now manufactured in England. So would the tarrif still apply?

Thompson is losing the battle terribly to Panasonic and Sony so they need any help they can get!

HVR-Z1 from Yodobashi - 598,000 yen.

But you get 13% points, so that's 77,740 yen in store credit to spend on whatever you like. :)
