[floatr]Image[/floatr]JFS: New Vending Machines Accepting Donations, Bring-Your-Own Cups
A vending machine that accepts donations made its debut on the Tohoku Fukushi University campus...Above the coin slot are two "donation buttons": one for a 10-yen donation and the other for a 100-yen donation. After buying a drink, consumers can push the buttons to make a donation...the money will be donated to the Miyagi prefectural branch of the Central Community Chest of Japan...Meanwhile...the Shiga Prefectural Office installed another type of new machine that allows consumers to use their own cups when they purchase drinks. The use of one's own cup results in a 10-yen discount, but conventional paper cups are also available...more...

That's a pretty cool idea.. But they should accept all coins... and the money should go to a better cause.. ]Glory Hole Vending Machine. Seem like Japan would be all over that shit; impersonal, technological kink. I thought this was Japan! ;)

:p Does she hang out on the street corners? Right next to the Coke machine? ]OK I'm intrigued like watching a train wreck to wonder how that would work.
It would have to be like one of those purikura-booths.. With a curtain.

The economics of "honor vending" has fascinated me ever since I read this very interesting NYTimes article entitled "What the Bagel Man Saw." It's a good read.
