au prepaid keitai cmail but no e-mail

Postby Hokuto-shinken » Tue Mar 13, 2007 11:54 am

ImageHello chaps,

Hope there are some Keitai wizards out there to help me with my query Image。 I recently bought an au prepaid keitai。 It`s a Kyocera phone and I am quite happy with it, but Image I can`t recieve e-mail。 Although I can receive cmail (short mail) from other au members。

Before anybody says `GOOGLE ITImage` Image I have, but still have not found a way to do it。

There might be 2 ways of doing it;-

Image When you send a message to another au member, you can use by cmail. Type in the keitai number and simply send the message. However, as far as I know, you are not just replying straight to the number Image, as you would with a sms message。 You are replying to a hidden server address. For example....

関東・中部 電話番号@cmail.ido.ne.jp
北海道 電話番号@dct.dion.ne.jp
東北 電話番号@tct.dion.ne.jp
北陸 電話番号@hct.dion.ne.jp
関西 電話番号@kct.dion.ne.jp
中国 電話番号@cct.dion.ne.jp
四国 電話番号@sct.dion.ne.jp
九州 電話番号@qct.dion.ne.jp
沖縄 電話番号@oct.dion.ne.jp

So you would put your number before the address and depending on where you live you must select the correct area。 I have tried all of them but no luck 。 Maybe if you have a contract phone the cmail address is already set up for you, but if you don`t have a contract it is banned? I have no idea.

Image Another way I might be able to receive e-mails in cmail form is to set up a special keitai email account. I can pick my own custom address and forward the mails to my cmail account. http://www.clubbbq.com/ This website would be perfect, but to register on sites like this you need to have a keitai address already. Image I think most Japanese people use sites like this to have custom e-mail addresses and to forward their normal keitai e-mail to their cmail because it is cheaper to read Image。

Does anybody know how to find out your cmail full address, or know of a good keitai mail forwarding website where you can just use your keitai number to log in。

Thank you

Notes for Usage

E-mail and EZweb are not available with the CDMA Prepaid Service.
CDMA Prepaid Phones have an EZ button and e-mail button, but these functions cannot be used.
In order to use e-mail and EZweb you must switch your Prepaid Phone subscription to a standard au subscription. You can use the same telephone number as you use with your CDMA Prepaid Phone.

C-mail is basically a closed SMS service for only AU network. It is marketed as a "chat mail". As it uses a proprietary gateway you will not be able to get your regular email.

If you are happy with your phone, then just change to a regular contract. Am curious as to why you have a prepaid version? Costs are high and features are low.

Thank you for the quick reply GomiGirl,

Yes, I did check the au site and of course the au official site will say you can`t do it。

I am not sure what you mean by this
As it uses a proprietary gateway you will not be able to get your regular email.
I can`t receive regular emails, only cmails。

Most of my friends are on au, so I can receive their cmails for free and I can use the phone for 1 year without any money on it。 If I change to the contracted service I would be paying from 4000円 per month just to have the phone and pay to receive email and cmails。 If you want to make a phone call with a prepaid you don`t have to use the au top up cards, you can use cheap phone cards。 So, all in all it is much cheaper and saves me about 1万円 every month。

Well I guess you get what you pay for.. ;)

Anyway, I am really not in a position to help you out hacking into a carrier gateway. Sorry but I cannot bite the hand that feeds me.

It might be a good question for the Keitai-L discussion group Lots of techies on there that may have a solution for you.
