I am travelling to Tokyo next week and want to use a DSLR while I am there - any reason to wait to buy one in Tokyo/Yokohama instead of US and carrying with me?

Not really, no.
They may be a bit cheaper if you hit the right shops but DSLR warranties are not international.
And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking Racing around to come up behind you again The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
FGL is right. Actually prices were significantly worse in Japan over the last few years in my experience. With the weakening of the yen and also some better pricing here in general, it now looks to me like prices are virtually neck-to-neck with the U.S. As FGL points out, even if you save a few bucks (like maybe $50 on a body or expensive lens if you go to the right store), it really doesn't make up for losing the ability to get warranty repair.
