can someone BUY me mac os 8.6-9J?

Postby bluepxl » Sat Dec 21, 2002 8:54 am

finding mac OS 9J is very hard in america (at least for a decent price). if anyone living in japan can possibly manage to go to akihabara or wherever and buy me a copy of any mac os from 8.6-9 (preferbably 9) or sell me a copy you own, i'd really appreciate it. i'll pay for total cost, shipping, handling, anything. i just really need a copy by the end of the month for a project i'm working on... pleeease! PM me!

He's right.
Starting with MacOS 9, they included all the language kits on all disks. So you can write Japanese using your computer.
It also allows you to view Japanese web pages.

And if you have an application that says Kanji Talk or says something about a Japanese version of the MacOS, don't worry about it. Your Mac can still run it as long as you have that language kit installed.

Now if you are trying to do something ELSE, let us hear it, I'm sure you can do it without having to shell out some bucks.
I will not abide ignorant intolerance just for the sake of getting along.

i have mac os 9 and currently use the JLK just fine. there are certain features only found in the japanese mac os that have nothing to do with reading & writing japanese and viewing web pages. one such thing i have been dying for are the japanese macintalk voices & speech. http://www.naotaka.com/talker/j-speech.html that site was the closest i could come to finding any information on the japanese macintalk, but even so it is just talking about a plugin to speak japanese websites to you (which is actually one reason i want it for). another reason is a music project i've been working on and meaning to have done for a project deadline by the end of the month in which i want to use japanese robot voices.

essentially that is the main feature i am hoping to have, but also i have been wanting to have all the menus and things in japanese as well. the main reason i want it, macintalk voices, SHOULD be available for free, but are sooooooooo hard to find. basically from what i can tell, the only way to get them is to get them on a mac OS cd. you are able to download all the speech tools and voices from the apple english website, but i searched all over the apple japanese website and found nothing. the links provided on that "talker" plug in site were also no good.

if anyone has macintalk or can direct me how to find it for download on apple's site, it'd be greatly appreciated.

but in any event, i'd still like japanese OS for having japanese menus and full japanese support and everything. :D

OS X

Forget the old... OS X can support all of the languages, menus and all, in a single installation.

If the guys from NeXT didn't write it, it's not worth putting in X.

At least that's the impression I got from old Apple employees after the return of Jobs. 8O

i love and use X at my mac G4 @ work where i do graphic design. it's awesome.

but i'm too poor to afford any of the new macs, so all i have @ home is a powermac 9500. cannot support beyond mac OS 9.

well you know, one thing is mac robot voices (at least the english ones) have always had a unique sound and interesting style. you know when you hear one, and they've been used in music and movies a lot. i am dying to hear the japanese ones, i'm sure they are pretty unique and cool as well...

but i guess it won't happen since no one is actually referring to mac os or offering to buy it ;)

but thanks for all those links bikkle, they're pretty neat! i just thought i would refer you to a very good one, natural voices from at&t. they are definitely some of the best voices i've ever heard. but very unfortunately, there are few languages available, and certainly no japanese  oh well, i just want the MAC ones anyway
