More BS questions

Postby Mock Cockpit » Tue Apr 14, 2009 11:47 pm

So I've pulled the pin and bought big, new, flash TV and at the same time we've gotten rid off the Skapa and gone with Hikari TV. So now I've got the Skapa dish sitting up there on the balcony like a massive wok of fail. When we built our house we had the wires for the dish run through the house. What I'd like to do is swap the Skapa dish for a BS/CS type dish and was wondering if the wire/coaxial cable thingy that goes from (what google tells me is) the "feed horn" into the house is the same or do I need to change that cable too? If I need to change the cable as well it won't be worth it but if it's simply a matter of changing the dish and setting it at the right angle well then that's easy enough to do.
Picture of the feed horn. Feed horn!!!!! Motherfuckers!

Well did you hook everything up and test it out already?

I havent worked with Skapa or Hikari TV, but i am almost 100% positive that the cable is exactly the same. I dont know of any other way of transmitting the signal. Now certain cables may be rated for a certain bandwidth, but really the cable should act just fine either way, just not optimally.

Now if you need some sort of adaptor or amplifier box inbetween dish and t-line, thats a different story.

Changing a cable

Postby BTDT » Wed Apr 15, 2009 1:22 am

I also think you probably don`t have to change the cable, but in the unlikely event that you do, it probably won`t be that much of a hassle. In all likelihood, the cable enters the house through a plastic tube that runs behind the walls to the "outlet". Securely tie a thin rope to the old cable and then pull it through.
As you pull it out it will bring the rope with it, which you use to pull the new cable back through. Been there, done that. The same applies for interphone cables and TV antennas.

I'd say, if both service come from a sat in a K-mu band there should not be any reason to change the wiring. (And to be honest, i'd say that even with a C-band there should not be any problem, but I might be the only madman to dream of a 3 meter C-band antenna...)

Interesting I just went through the same thing recently. First off, I'm pretty sure you will have to change the whole dish antenna, but it will only cost you about Y7000. As for the cable, the TV guy who helped me out, told me that my house was built 9 years ago, and the cable used then was not made for high definition signals, but it will work. So depending on how old your house is, there should be no problem. Remember if you put up the dish, the NHK man is going to want more money from you though, and it is a little harder telling him you never watch TV when you have a big dish on the side of your house.
On a side note the new skyperfectv E2 really sucks, I can't understand why they have two companies offering very different service, and unfortunately E2 is on the poor end. And unbelievable they offer no porn! I thought that was where cable and satellite companies made all their money.
