NTT declares victory over DOS attacks

Postby Taro Toporific » Tue Feb 18, 2003 8:42 pm

It's sounds like NTT is asking for a D.DOS "distributed denial of service" attack, muh ha ha!
NTT says develops system to fight cyber attacks
Japan's Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp said on Tuesday it had developed an advanced Web security system that protects data flow on a network against hackers who attack servers with a flood of data. In a so-called "distributed denial of service" attack, or DDOS...
"Quite a few firms are conducting research on DDOS, but I believe we are the only one in the world that is focusing on a total solution, including detection, confinement and protection of overall users," Isao Saito, research supervisor at NTT's Information Sharing Platform Laboratories, told reporters.

DDoS can paralyze your site, it did ours a couple of times.
Sucks bad. If they have invented a way to stop it, I wonder how and if it will become available to the public?

Whenever the hit volume goes wild, our TurboLinux site automatically falls back to banning all traffic from Korea and China domains. So far that always 'cures" the problem. Of course, the China office ain't too happy about that but...

That would work but then you target users that aren't responsible for the attacks when you ban the entire IP strings.

I wish there were a way to distinguish between the DDoS attack packets and normal traffic.
