Electrical updates...

Postby Coligny » Fri Jan 13, 2012 11:47 am

Some electric company subcontractor is supposed to come early afternoon to upgrade the subscription of the building...

Currently triphase:
100V 50A
200V 120A

I hoped to have 100V 100A, but the technician said 100 triphase breaker don't exist... only 50A, 75A and (like the original one 150A). So he want instead to put a twice 50A breaker ... the device he described don't make sense and don't seems to exist on this planet... It would have to be an hybrid with 2 50A phase rating and a 100A return rating in the middle

Meanwhile I came back the day after that argument with a JIS Hitachi 3P 100A (400 or 500V can't remember) breaker from the hardware store.

Sooo...

It's gonna be epic...

It's gonna be bad...

And it's supposed to take 4 hours...

/le sux...
//December bill was 75 000 yens... with main breaker blowing 5 to 7 times a week :-(
///Huge bills with availability are sort of ok... huge bills with constant fear of tripping the breaker are unbearable...

Have you LED retrofitted your bunker yet? That saved me quite a bit...

Is this for a house or a commercial building? The wires would be glowing if you are running 100A thru 100V! 75A would be pushing it under normal wiring conditions.

What you bought is a 100A Breaker for 3 Phase power which is fine if you have 3 Phase power. In a commercial building you bring in 3 Phase power then distribute to multiple smaller MDF boards which break it into the 100V lines which run @ 60A or so.

You could always take out the breaker and put in a solid metal bar so there is no breaker. (No responsibility if the place blows up or burns down :) )

PS: Not up to date on the whole thread so if i'm completely wrong then let me know.

"Commercial" building, with still special maintenance contract to be prioritized in case of loss of power (part of the huge bill). The original breaker of the building is triphase 100V 150A

Downgraded to 50A 15 years ago and I want it back to 100A. Trust me, with the size of the wiring it would not even break a sweat...

Each floor have a triphase 75A sub breaker anyway.

I tend to do everything by the book... when there is a book...

Nope those would be "memos" and I prefer putting explicit labels directly on the wires in these case. (even if usually the plan for automotive wiring jobs is always drawn before with the proper order of battul... allows to get only the tooling and prepped parts necessary downstairs, since it's to be done in heat or cold of the parking I prefer to follow blindly my previous instructions rather than having to think while mah harbles gets frozen... a bit like working on the hubble telescope... you don't want to notice the missing spanner still in Houston while you'z up there).

Usually "manuals" refer to either electric code... or highschool physics...

After a short argument... where one of the guys while laughing at mah bill told me 50A was enough for his house... to which I answered that his house might not have 34 rooms and 2 stairwell spread over 4 floors with countless unaccounted electrical systems with litteral life on their own... The job was done in 30 minutes and they ran away... stress test this evening...

SIDENOTE:

So it appears that in japan... they got 3 phased breakers with only the 2 phase protected and a big 'FUCK YOU' for the neutral.

It allows to have a 'Virtual 100A' with a 50A subscription where half of your panel have 50A and the other one have also 50A, so if you carefully spread your devices around the house you can be lucky and allowed to use up to 100A... But if you're outta luck you won't see more than 50A...

This is 3rd world bullshit... I should never have let them do dat... but I just had mominlaw for the translation and when the tension was raising she was more and more looking like a lost little girl who really didn't want to be there...

(lucky it wuz not me bitch in fact, because with all the bullshit they dropped she would have headbutted them back to their truck...)

What's a bit of electrocution between friends? Try explaining common ground to someone here and get a muddle look of confusion!
