Old Macintosh computers

Postby AlbertSiegel » Sat Apr 19, 2014 10:59 pm

A bit of an odd request, but does anyone know of a shop where I can buy old Macintosh computers? I'm talking PowerPC or older. I'm just looking for a G4 or maybe older simply for my amusement. Consider it a waste of money hobby, but I do like to play with an old computer from time to time. Might be fun to have a Powerbook G4 again.

Got a Blue and White G3 (ex video security server)
And a Silver 2 gen G4 agp graphics. Ex desktop.
Probs you might not like, they were used a lot. The G4 have third party accelerated CPU board, and 2 ati video cards not the original one, support 3 screens. Can't vouch for the health of the optical drives as I never used them. Can't remember where I put the original OS9 disks either.

Sofmap. Or go poke about the backstreets of Akihabara, plenty of stores selling 2nd hand stuff including G4 Macs. At least there were a couple of weeks ago.

Now, anyone know where I can find a 5.25in drive?

Hi Coligny, I sent you a PM, but it seems stuck in the outbox. Please let me know if it made it to you.

Yanpa, thanks for the info. I tried Sofmap, but no luck with older system. Is there a Sofpam that does have the old Macs? I only went to the Mac Collection. As for small shops in Akiba, I only found one that had few machines that were all in very bad shape. Maybe I missed the right stores.

LOL! Thanks GomiGirl! That is pretty old. Not too many of those were made. Nice collectible. Sadly, I think I'll need to pass as space is a luxury for me with my girlfriend who uses the other room as a closet and my dog taking up the rest of the house space. If I do grab a desktop, it could be only one for space reasons. I might give Yahoo Auctions a try as I would love an old PowerBook.

Hmm, can't really help you any further... I have to admit to a fondness for old tech so I was interested to see some G4 Macs of varying types, but not really interested enough to look very closely. I was suprised by how much they seem to hold their value, mind you.

OK, the PM system here is not working for me. My first PM eventually went out, but my second one is still in the outbox. Am I missing something?

Albert,

Normal behaviour, I believe. The PM stays in the outbox until it is read by the recipient.
Which is actually kind of nice ... because you know when the mail has been received.

I've got an iMac G4 fully working with a new CD drive and upgraded RAM plus an airport card. It is complete except for the mouse. If anyone has one they don't need ........

I get it out now and again to play with it but as great looking as it is, it is just too damn slow for most things. I did notice Stephen Pinker using one for his presentation slides during a recent TED talk though.
