Image DoCoMo pushes handset with fingerprint authentication
PC World Magazine, IDG News Service -- 10/07/2003 09:16:52
Mobile phone users in Japan, seeking a quick and easy way to secure their phones, will soon be able to purchase handsets using fingerprint authentication ...customers can use fingerprints in place of passwords or code numbers to gain access to their handsets or to phone numbers that they wish to keep secret. The scanner is located at the bottom of the keypad on the handset.

If it works, it could be the best thing EVAR and pave the way to doing away with securing systems for all kinds of electronic devices. Doesn't sound too practical for things like bike locks though...

Ya.. I was at the Imperial Hotel back in April when DoCoMo rolled out their new 505i line-up.. Good Show. Funny thing is the only glitch all afternoon was the demo on that Fujitsu finger print model. When Natsuno-san tried to show it lock/unlock the damn unit jammed on him in front of all those media cams (mine included)..!! He was pretty cool about it though and suggested maybe because he was nervous standing on stage with such a pretty girl (teen idol Ai Kato) his fingers were a little `sweaty` Hmmm.. like Summer in Tokyo..?!? or Shibuya Saturday Nights.. 8-> You can see bit of the preview from that event here]http://www.wirelesswatchjapan.com/vp/pv.shtml[/url]

To be fair, the `Mova` handset actually comes with 16mb memory card and claims to allow user shooting up to 10 video clips at max. 6 min. each!!!

I guess passcodes weren't sufficient security for married oyajis who use their keitai to store their mistress' phone numbers.
