If after reading that extract, you contract a virus, you must be a moron. An outstanding rundown of virus vs worm. Very interesting indeed, considering also, that Blaster2 is just around the corner.
:D

Thanks Steve for that.

I am not calling Mac users idiots. AV software and a good firewall is still a good idea even if you yourself cannot be infected, cause Mr. Clicksalot with the mailing list virus (the one in his head that makes him forward every dumbass message he recieves to everyone in his contacts list) will undoubtedly contribute to virus distribution for a very long time to come. If someone doesn't just bypass him and get root and make his Mac an SMTP server fora few weeks instead....

That's almost a fair shot. I switched from Mac to Windows in 1998 becuase I wanted to build my own machine with the parts of my choosing. I switched back in 2002 because I got the best price/perfomance combination on a portable from Apple. I still work with Windows and may pick up a cheapo PC for filesharing and a few other things. I'm sticking with Apple for my workhorse machine though.

Yes, "that guy" will always be around. Even if he got an "are you sure you want to send this attachment" message from his email program, he'd still click yes.

I keep my system behind a firewall both at work and at home. The network at work is all PCs, running with very few problems, so I trust their firewalls. At home I use a wireless router.

Actually CS, the shot was at incompetent salesmen at Best Try and Circuit-Jerk City. But yeah, Macs are cool and OSX is good (haven't played with it much cause I am too used to the Win-blows layouts and terms).

I dislike most retail computer salespeople (and loathe the ones at Best Buy), but I was pretty impressed with the guys at my (Tacoma, WA) CompUSA this summer. They have dedicated Apple salespeople and PC-only people in the store. Makes it easy to get your questions answered by the person with the most knowledge no matter what system you're interested in. When I had an Apple question* that stumped on guy, he told me which guy I needed to ask, rather than just BS me with something he thought would get me to go away.

(*I was looking into a variety of webhosting options this summer and the question was, "what's the monthly transfer limit on .mac webspaces?" Neither of them could answer it and Apple doens't list that info anywhere on their site. How odd. You'd think they'd tell you what you're paying for (every other hosting service does), but I guess they don't feel the need to specify it, simply saying "enough.")
