Sat TV Question

Postby fast_dave » Sun Mar 21, 2004 7:33 pm

Hey F'd Gaijins,
Question: Is English language Satellite TV available in Japan? If so, who are the providers? Is it a "smart card" based system or? Any info appreciated as well as any links to sites dealing with this subject.
Regards,

ABC Asia-Pacific

Postby Marvin Feltcher » Mon Mar 22, 2004 8:07 am

I get Australia's ABC Asia-Pacific channel, which is a smart-card based system operated by a tiny company in Nagoya. They also offer a German channel, so would probably know about other services available.
They're really kind and helpful people, so you may want to ask them.
They can be reached through http://www.muracam-tv.com

Many of the FGs use cable TV here which is ok if you live in a urban yuppie area. Japanese cable TV companies such as Tokyu Cable cover 10-to-30 shitty English channels. Many FG buildings in Tokyo provide cable TV with "free" Internet as part of your rent. See more info here:

Lesser FGs like me, just use a 20cm sat dish from SkyPerfecTV starting arround 2,200yen/ month. See
http://www.skyperfectv.co.jp/en/

With fancy-pants sports and movie channels, sat service can cost 4,000yen/m or more

MO' BETTA....You might want to use this site's amazing "Search" function to look at many old threads that covered this topic like Satellite Dish = Japanese TV Shows?? and Yahoo BB Cable TV.

And of course, there's always the best: Tokyo DV and PONGI TV--- All noise All the time.

Is it possible

Postby canman » Tue Aug 31, 2004 3:03 pm

I have a contract with Skyperfectv and with WOWOW(my wife loves movies. The SP tuner is on the downstairs tv, the ww is upstairs. What I want to do is be able to watch SP upstairs when I'm lounging in bed. Or when the kids have their friends over and are playing video games. I've heard you have to get a new tuner and a new contract which I will not do. I'm not looking at doing anything illegal only see if it can be done. Hell at home everyone runs cable from one source to every tv, but it seems to be different here in Japan. A little help please. Thanks.

YOUR ALL WASTING YOUR MONEY -- AND TONS OF IT --
IF YOUR NOT GOING WITH BBTV (http://www.bbtv.com)

It is the IP-Cable optoin to Cable that has installation costs of about 50,000 yen. *ouch*

Whether you have ADSL or Fiber to the Home you can get it. as long as your B/W is greater than about 2.7 MG's

The price for it is only +/- 2500 yen above your ADSL/ISP fee.
