Yahoo Mail capacity boosted

Postby Mulboyne » Wed Jun 16, 2004 8:14 am

I don't know if this was advertised but it looks like Yahoo have expanded their free webmail capacity from 6mb to 100mb and given it a general overhaul. Obviously an anti-Google tactic

Yahoo Mail

The site is getting a lot of hits right now so it may not load.

Earlier this year I paid for a 10MB account, now it's been boosted to 2GB (which is total overkill)

Yahoo is consistantly slow, it doesn't support Japanese: this is what a kanji e-mail name looks like

$B?@ C+!!(B $B<S51(B

So you're never sure who sent the e-mail. You can quasi write in EUC but in practice it doesn't support Japanese. In general is not that great a service. The best thing is the spam filters.

Why not get a Japanese Yahoo Account

The capacity is currently @ 6 MB but they no doubt will upgrade that to keep in line with the US.

Also it's one of the few remaining Yahoo sites that let you register Yahoo mailboxes as POP3.

Japanese issue aside, there is a backdoor for POP3 access for US Yahoo accounts. Check out YPOPs!, a helper app that sneaks around Yahoo's POP-block. You can get it for OSX, Linux, Windows and Solaris.

Note: I haven't used it (Yahoo's webmail is fine for me), I'm just pointing out the option.

I've been using them since they made the change to 2GB.

I have been using spymac for quite some time now. It is good, but pales in comparison to Gmail. The ease of use, speed, search speed, kbd shortcuts etc. etc. etc.

I wish I had another Invite to send you.
