Is one of those accessories a lens cap, by any chance? If not, that thing's gonna get thrashed in a hurry.

Looks cool, though. Does it have Bluetooth?

Sold. The keypad looks functional too! (I hate tiny Japanese keys.)

BT - yes.. I think BT is standard these days.

Lens cap.. um not sure. But most most camera phones without a cap have a slight ridge around the lens and this protects it quite well. I have always used camera phones without a cap and the worst trouble I have is fingerprints.

More moving parts would cause more grief IMHO.

The SonyEricsson A5402S had a little revolving lense that you could aim out either side of the phone and tuck away when not it use - the catch being you`d most likely leave a thumbprint on the lense everytime you did that.

Im not at all impressed with the totally overpriced, measly selection of phones im going home to in Ireland, at the end of the summer.. any suggestions?

And, most importantly, will it be available with an English OS.

(I am going to be needing a new phone before too much longer.... :) )

I guess not... so the Nokia is ideal if youre based in Japan and do somewhere between a bit and alot of travelling (i think nokia released a 3G one a year or 2 ago but it was a rather chunky and a commercial failure).

Do you suppose it would be possible to insert a SIM card from another network (ie.a European phone company) or the phone would be fixed to work only on whichever Japanese provider you get it from?

My guess would be that this phone would be available throughout the world in many language variants.. you would purchase the phone from your operator of choice in whichever country you spend most of your time and sign up for a contract that allows you to roam and use the same number. Then when you are in another country you would use the local network that your home carrier has reciprocal agreements.... you would have to pay the roaming fees but people would be able to contact you on the same number.

Most carriers insist on SIM locked phones so you can only use their SIM card as the handsets are heavily subsidised.

That would be my guess.

That would make even non-techie yours truly go and shell out the money. I'm actually looking at phones right now as well. I'll probably wait until the summer models are out before shopping so I can grab a bargain somewhere.
