What is the best video editing and DVD solution for PC?

Postby AlbertSiegel » Thu Jun 17, 2004 4:07 pm

What is the best video editing and DVD solution for PC? I hear Avid DV is like Final Cut Pro for the PC, but what is ther for DVDs? DVD Studio Pro is the best! Is there anything like it for the PC?

Do any of you edit on the PC? What do you use and why do you like it? I am thinking of getting a MAC just for video, but I would rather save the money and just upgrade my PC.

I think my hardware is good enough. 512MB RAM, two 60GB hard drives, Athlon 2600XP @1.9ghz, nVidia FX5200 128MB video, 8x DVD-+RW, AV in/out, Windows XP Pro SP1.
If only Bill Gates had a penny for every time Windows crashed......oh wait... he does!!

I use sonic foundry (super cheap) and sound forge to edit audio, TMPGEnc to author and it works fine. All the bells and whistles have limited use. (for me anyway) certainly if you are doing production quality DVD authoring you will need something better. But all that high end software has a steep learning curve, I don't have all day to learn the nuances of a feature I'll use every 6 months.
