Daikoku Custom Car Meet: Photos

Postby mr. sparkle » Sun Jun 20, 2004 6:16 pm

This was a meet at Daikoku in Yokohama a couple of days after January 1st. To celebrate the new year, bosozoku (motorcycle hooligans) cruise into Kamakura on motorcycles via the Shonan (like our PCH) in droves. Their other favorite mode of transport is an unregistered Mark II or Cresta (our Cressida) with its roof chopped off... The weekend after January 1st, they gather at Daikoku (a well-known spot for meets) for a huge meet at a rest stop... This is where I snapped these pics. The cars ranged from bozo'd out old school Laurels/Crestas/Skylines to crazy vans and flashing trucks...

Some kooky custom jobs at this Daikoku meet. This link has some wild machines. I know we've seen the monster trucks, but I've never seen the tuners from hell! I wish they released the Nissan Skyline in the states. Is this the kind of car they also use for Drifting?

Cool vans and Vegas-style Trucks as well here too.

Sparkle, check out the latest issue of Giant Robot, there is a small article on Drifting.

From what they are saying, 20 year old rear wheel drive Toyota Corollas and Nissan Silvas are the norm. Good article, another good issue.

Happy 10 Years GR!!!!

Sparkle, it sounds like you have more info than the article anyway (yep print version only) but get down to the shop and make contact with them. May get some useful links to help you out. I'd only read the article the same morning you posted!

Being a skip, my first car was a TC Cortina God awful tropicana green with a vinyl roof. Four cylinder sized car with a small 6 shoehorned in and rear wheel drive gave it great floating control on dirt roads. I don't think GM in America make a rear wheel drive car anymore. The last I heard was that they were importing Holden Commodores for Police Highway cars.
