Megapixel camera phones

Postby voltage » Mon Aug 02, 2004 8:29 am

I'm definitely going to get a Keitai here, and was thinking about getting a digicam as well. Then I thought, most of the camera phones here are 1+ megapixel. Sure better than my T-Mobile .6 megapixal crap with crappy quality.

So my question is, for normal purposes (I'm not a professional photographer or anything, sometimes I just like to take pics), will a megapixel cam-phone be able to replace a digicam? Or is it just a bigger version of my crappy Samsung at home? I was looking at AU phones since they have the discount for students.

I'm not looking to get super high quality, but if the quality is like my camera phone at home then even if it is 1+ megapixel I don't think it would do.

Just for reference, I took this picture on the freeway with my Samsung from home:

If the quality on most megapixel cam phones here are better than that, I would be happy. If they just take bigger pictures of the same quality then I probably will have to buy a digicam. Any thoughts?

I recently picked up a Vodaphone keitai with a 2 megapixel camera. Its a great camera and can take really good photos. Last I looked its now 1yen at most big electronics stores like Yodobashi etc.
Oh its the V601SH I think.. :)
