Apple plans music download service in Japan

Postby Steve Bildermann » Fri Nov 19, 2004 3:46 am

Apple Computer Inc. (AAPL.O: Quote, Profile, Research) , the maker of Macintosh computers and iPod digital music players, plans to start a music download service in Japan by March 2005, the Nihon Keizai newspaper reported on Thursday

Japanese download services charge 100 yen ($0.961) to 400 yen ($3.84) per song, compared with the 99 cents iTunes charges at its U.S. Internet store.

Just out of interest - has anyone bought an i-pod in Japan and brought it back to Europe?

I'm tempted to buy one here but not sure about any potential compatiobility issues (apart from power)

Any advice?

You can use the iPod with 240 volts. The iPod's power block is a power transformer stepping the local current down to what is required. Just buy an el-cheapo travel kit (a collection of new plugs) to change the plug prongs. I looking at the bottom of my iPod's transformer, it is rated for between "AC 100 to 240 volts." Any 1,000 yen travel adapter will do just fine to match your 240 volt wall outlets back in Europe.

Access to Other Music Stores?

Postby GuyJean » Mon Nov 22, 2004 10:06 am

Is anyone else having trouble accessing the Music Stores of other locations? I usually browse through the UK or US stores, but I can't seem to get past the 'Country Warning' page in iTunes anymore.. WTF?
