Tokyo university faculty blasts ethnic school policy
The Asahi Shimbun (07/29
Slamming a controversial education ministry policy as ``discriminatory,'' faculty members at state-run Tokyo University of Foreign Studies called on the institute to exercise its own judgment on whether to allow graduates of non-Western foreign schools to take entrance exams....
...Those from non-Western foreign schools, including schools for Korean residents in Japan, were excluded from the plan, prompting fierce criticism....
...Under the current system, students and graduates of Korean and other Asian schools must also sit daiken college admission tests to prove they meet national academic standards if they plan to apply for admission to national universities.
