Komazawa University, whats the deal?

Postby Pal_msy » Mon Jun 14, 2004 2:07 am

Hey, I am currently studying at the University of Queensland. I have looked into going on exchange next year and have been pointed in the direction of Komazawa university by my japanese teacher. Having scaled the website, I was able to get very little out of it. Has anyone had any experience with this University? or know anything aobut it? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I was thinking of changing my preference to Waseda University due to its rugby club, but would just like to know about Komazama before I did.

Waseda would seem to be the more prestigious of the two..

IMO proximity to Uni is quite important - @ Waseda you should be set up with accomodation quite close to college (the people i knew there had been living in Takadanobaba - a mere stones throw away)

Komazawa is fairly close to Tokyo "centre" but how far away from college would you be living?

if the rugbys important for ya: you could join a team outside from uni
eg. http://www.tokyocrusaders.com
most of em tend to be ozzy/kiwi/irish/english
its good for networking aswell as most of these guys are fulltime business-folk - social life is good and some of these guys could end up hooking you up with a job later

I would be living about 10 minutes away from Komazawa Uni i am told and will be supplied with a bike. which sounds promising.
Thanks for the suggestion of the club rugby team, but i was more hoping to play witha university team to see how different their approach to the game was.
Do you think the pretige of the university would matter much in terms of getting a job later on?
thanks again.

waseda is a much better option than komazawa if you have the talent for it. jobwise and chickwise the choice is waseda as it has a much higher brand value. in terms of rugby, the team is highly competitive, japanese and tightly knit so you might have trouble getting in unless you are an outstanding player yourself. downside is that waseda probably has higher academical standards (nothing to really worry about in jpn universities though).

i have never heard anything good about komazawa, to tell you the truth.

If it's of any help, I spoke to some people at Adelaide (university), not staff, and they've suggested Waseda, although this is Aus'-centric advice I thought having an opinion from another uni' here (Aus') and former exchange students would be good. :P
