Nagoya Uni of Foreign Studies

Postby Mr Doricar » Mon Sep 10, 2007 9:24 am

Hey everyone,

Anyone know much about this Uni ?

http://www.nufs.ac.jp/index.html

I'm looking into the Non-degree programs for a friend back in England who wants to move over to Nihon for a year or so but doesn't want to work (has plenty of money).

These courses look good as she wants to spend her time learning more about Japanese culture, traditions, caligraphy and all that jazz as well as learning more language skills.

From the website it looks ideal. Anyone here have any experience with NUFS?

Also do you think a Non-degree course would be sufficient for a student visa? I'll read up about that part myself anyway.

Thanks in advance

James

Yeah, several of my friends from my University went to Nagoya, they all returned to the US after a year with near-native fluency. But then, all of them did 3 years of Japanese classes before going there. They all gave it a thumbs up.
However, I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for a newbie at the language.

Hi Charles,

Sounds good. Do you have any idea how much the fees were?

Thanks

My university had an exchange student deal with Nagoya, so our students only paid our US tuition rates, it was really cheap. I don't think that fee structure would apply to your English friend. I'm sure the Nagoya admins will give him the details. I am sure they will also assist with a student visa (they really have to, that's their job).

Right you are. I have checked their list of exchange Uni's BUT the lady in question isn't currently studying. She's working but wants to come just to study for a year. She's NOT doing an undergrad degree or any other studies in the UK presently. Literally just wants to pay the Uni the fee's they want and go to study Japanese some more.

Thanks for you help though. We'll contact the Uni directly. Just wanted to hear anyone's opinions of the place first. Cheers mate
