Audi A6 Allroad (not much hope here...)

Postby Coligny » Fri Nov 19, 2010 1:45 am

Just in case... If by anychances you see one day a 2nd hand Audi A6 Allroad Quattro plateform C5 ONLY with the TDI engine...

Model was not sold locally, have to be an english market import...

The gasoline version was... moderately dreadfull and thirsty, while the diesel version was a bundle of awesome, including a diff lock... which is a feature unheard of for any poseur SUV these days...

(and, no, I don't see me importing it myself...) 5000 quids for the car... and certainly the price of a new Benz for transport and registration...

What year and what are you trying to do with it? Selling it?

Any year for the C5 production range (99-2005), preferably late.

I always loved the A6 C5 AR. And she's reaching an age where they are cheap while you can still find them in good shape.

Purely recreationnal on the cheap, that's why I really don't want the gasoline version with its 20l/100km min (the TDI do 10l/100km). And the daily road to the hospital have enough gravel-only shortcuts to justify a little more rugged car...

I don't see anyother uplifted stationwagon in the current lineup with AWD capability while still being affordable and not an eyesore. (Volvos XC70-90 were cool... but I don't remember who bought the company... and don't remember them being cheap...) Nissan Dualis is ugly, Juke... is FWD only for now and the AWD will be premium gas only, Wingroad the 1.8 is FWD only the AWD is 1.5 CVT only (dreadfull). Subaru/toyota... ugly... Honda !? Mazda !? Mitsu !?

After some reading from Audi cultist forums. I have nearly no hopes, the air suspension sits on 4 rubber airbag, that seems to puncture or fall appart after 5 years and need expensive OEM replacement. Since import cars of this age have nearly no resell value in japan you can bet that most have been either turned into tuna cans or sold in third world countries like France or Afghanistan...

All are C6 plateform, with matching price, car sensor lab only got 1 C5 (with honest -for Japan- price).

As for the RS4. the gen 1 on the B5 plateform, might be cool but we had a previous A4 B5 V6 2.4... And it was a repair and usability nightmare, that's why we dumped it and went for the cheapest thing with wheels that money can buy (i/e: Nissan Note). And for the B7 plateform one... uber expensive, and I don't want a racecar... I wanted something with a good face that could be economical to run, mildly offroad (can go on a field or gravel road without having to crap myself over potential breakdowns) and good on road... The really cool part was the multilevel suspension because the way parking entrance are designed around here, even with my factory standard car, I often scrap to bottom at the corner of the sidewalk... and the brakeline pipes are directly exposed underneath... I saw on the last Fifth Gear that Allroads were now dirt cheap, so started to look around.

Might have better luck with a Legacy Outback they are quite cheap... brand new... especially compared to second hand krauter prices... Can spend the spare coins on Quattro sticker to KeepItFake... Don't know aboot any ride height tricks though...

JP vehicles will of course be more reasonable in this land of the rising sun. I bought domestic because buying an import while you live in the country that makes excellent quality vehicles is an asinine waste, imo.

So I approve of the idea of a used Subie. My last car before this new one was a WRX Wagon with Nokian Hakkapellita snow tires which made for fierce grip in winter weather.

I have a 2008 Legacy B4 spec B that I drive the shit out of and it seems to take the abuse in stride.

Once I get my finances into better order I'm going to buy or lease a current model M3 with a 6 spd. Yes, I know that is an absolutely insane thing to do, but I don't really care. :D
And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again

Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Whoa, there are road laws in Japan? I've been driving in Osaka city for 6 years or so now, and I've never noticed any road laws... Come to think of it, I cycled the roads of Osaka for about 10 years before that and never noticed any road laws then either! I think this must be an urban legend.
