Slope

Postby Coligny » Sat Dec 31, 2016 3:37 am

Not for a by-the-regualtion barrier free building. But for a maximum workable angle for wheelchair/cart access.
My human ergonomical books recommend a 20:1 ratio lenght/height. But i need a reach of 90cm up (post genkan), i can squeeze a 13:1 slope but it's a bit too long already...

You mean you want to go 90cm up?

Yes... my numbers are a bit all over the place...
street to garden is 50 cm up
Street to house floor is 90 cm up
A bit of the parking might be 700cm long to reach 50cm up but i planned aircraft style tie down points.
Or eyebolts....

Wheelchairs can go up and down steps without any great problem provided the pusher is reasonably fit. The only thing is they need to be more like elephant steps. This kind of thing:

If you have a pusher, it's likely no problem at all. 1 m up would be 4 steps or so. But if you plan for a (elderly and not athletic) wheel chair pilot to move up there all on her own, then 20:1 is probably more like it. Wheel chair lift out of the question?

The wheelchair slope in front of my house ascends 24 cm over a distance of 3.00 m.

And from the road to the bottom of the slope it goes up 42 cm over my long driveway of 17.90 m, which is at a 90-degree angle with the slope.

Not everybody has such a long driveway, but my point is that you can divide your slope over several segments that are at a 90-degree angle with each other.

¥es that's one of the ideas 6m+7m slope to reach 90cm
using your numberz
300->24
1300->104
should be good.
it's more a delivery cart need. but might as well factor in wheelchair specs.

For a delivery cart, these should be plenty enough:

And you can remove them, when not in use. My little cart goes up these loaded with 6 jerry cans of toyu with ease. Would probably load twice as many if my cart was bigger.

Unassisted wheel chair though; you might need a winch :)
