Hotel or Weekly Rate Apartment Recommendations

Postby GuyJean » Thu May 15, 2003 8:59 am

Herro,

I have a crew of about 3 - 4 people coming to Japan for about a week at the end of May. They need a centrally located (Shibuya, Shinjuku, Roppongi) hotel, or weekly rental.

Their only request is "reasonable" ( ), and with "Internet access".

Any recommendations are, as usual, intensely valued? :)

Thanks,

GJ

How much, you begging bastard?

So far, I've found the Weekly Mansion 'claims' to have lowband Internet access in the rooms..

Around 97,000 yen for 7 nights for up to 4 people.(charged by the room)

Main site: http://www.wmt.co.jp

Shiogane (One station, 12 minutes walk): http://www.wmt.co.jp/location/area/city01.html

Akasaka: (Fairly central, 8 minutes walk): http://www.wmt.co.jp/location/area/city02.html

Nishi-Shinjuku: (Good station, but far: 20 minutes walk): http://www.wmt.co.jp/location/area/city07.html

Or the typical 'bend over and say 'Aaaah'' Japanese hote]http://www.shinjyuku-wh.com[/url]

I'm still checking and will update the list, but others are welcome to give their input, experiences, insights, etc..

Thanks!

Asahi Homes weekly 60,000-7,500-yen

BETTER YET: Let's GAIJIN HOUSE! My favorite: "Comma" House in KOMAgome, Toshima-ku.

Sakura House 15 minute walk to Harajuku and about the same to Shinjuku. The building has free high speed broadband internet access if you bring your own laptop. The rooms are very reasonable if you are looking at budget: 14,000 yen for a week, 24,000 for 15 days, and 40,000 for a month. There is a 10,000 fully refundable deposit if the room is in the same condition as you came. It is new and fully furnished. Click on the Gaijinpot.com accommodations. http://www.sakura-house.com

On the posh end of the scale..

Oakwood apartments

Get a 3 bedroom place and it is heaps cheaper per person. These are very very lush apartments in good areas. The Shirokane apartments are cheaper than the Azabu ones.

While "reasonable" is a flexible term depending on the person, I would chime in that, if you have the scratch for it, Oakwood is a pretty nice place to stay and they have really friendly and helpful staff. I've stayed at both the Aoyama and Shirkoane properties and was pleased with both, although Aoyama was a bit better located and has a nice resident area where you can meet/chat/have coffee with people outside of your room (and if you have that many people, you may need that).

The property in Shirokane is in a pretty quiet area and the only subway lines nearby are the Namboku and the Mita, which can get you around town alright, but it can be a bit time consuming to get to Shibuya or Shinjuku....Most of the time I just made the 15 minute walk to the Meguro JR station, and took the Yamanote line. Although you can mooch the hotel shuttle to Meguro station at the nearby Radisson hotel, which I did a few times when it was raining. The Shirkonane property is about 100 meter west and on the other side of the Radisson.

Also the Shirokane building is a bit odd, it has 4 rooms per floor for the first couple of floors and then has only two room per floor up to 15th floor, and the top floor is just one room (I think it has only one 3 bedroom unit). And I can say from personal experience, those upper floors jiggle alot during earthquakes. So if you are looking for a nice quite place to do work (like I was) Shirokane is a good choice...if you are looking for a nice place where you can easily walk to a lot places to eat and bars, you'd probably be better off at Azabu or Aoyama.

In closing, don't let the rates on their website scare you off...Most of the time, when you actually talk to them you, can get something a fair bit cheaper than those rates (although not always). However, internet access is not included in those rates, so be sure to ask about that as well.
