I'm not sure I understand your question.. Jobs in 'research'? That's pretty general.. Maybe you should research some specifics on research.

Sorry - I'm not sure about your question either. Are you talking about doing academic research versus entering the non-academic job market?

Basically I'm in a bind. I want to get back to Japan som how, but not in the capacity as an english teacher. I already got a job at water engineering firm (not started yet), or a fully funded PhD scholarship focusing on aerosol filtration - with my supervisor having contacts in Japan.

Now I will not get funding for the PhD if I go to work, so I must chose the work like or the research/academic life.

So I was just pondering what would be the better key for getting decent work in Japan. (my jap ability is level 2).

I don't think there is a definite "better path" for you to take. In my opinion, you should consider which job you really would want to take regardless of how it will influence your job opportunities in Japan. Do the job that seems most appealing to you now, develop your skills, and then figure out some way to market yourself with those skills in Japan later on.
