Uni jobs

Postby rooboy » Sun Sep 05, 2010 7:46 pm

Not for me (ha! I'd have to be on Mars to think of that!) but for a mate, what's the deal with uni jobs?

Yeah I know the MA/Phd thing but how about jobs that aren't tenure, give as the minimum requirement MA or equivalent? Got a mate who has done a lot of interesting shit like getting aticles published, has some uni experience when you didn't need those kinds of degrees to teach, has got a damned interesting cv etc.

Will he automatically not get his stuff read by unis because of no higher degree or do they say that but still have an open mind for people with some seriously interesting, job-advertised-oriented stuff?

FG policy is to approve any messages that reference bukkake, tentacle porn, goats, and Japanese toilets. FG moderators accidentally approved the spam, before noticing it met only 3 of the 4 criteria.

For reference and the historical record of mankind....

Is this the way they're* doing it nowadays; i.e. instead of posting blatant advertising and links, they post outwardly reasonable text with spam links embedded? I've had a couple of similar ones over at Expat Cafe (even though there's virtually nothing going on over there). It'll look like a repost of a news article or something like that, but certain words will be links to their feelthy spam.

Weird and pathetic.

Poor Rooboy's thread has now been jacked beyond recognition (sorry 'bout that Roo ... blame the spammers).

* "they" = the brain-dead cretins who think it's OK to waste everyone else's time by posting spam all over the damn place. Fucking idiots. Nobody wants to see their useless spam anyway.

I completely missed all the spam shit. Don'tknow what's going on there. Back to the topic about uni.

Update - I have a mate in Korea, wants to get away and I don't blame him. He's got tutoring at uni level, a shitload of other Eng related jobs, 4 years in Korea (sounds like it's gonna drag him down, not help him becaiuse of all the losers that work there in shit jobs and it was a hagwon not a uni) and good extracurricular stuff.

He wants to go for a couple of jobs at a J Uni but I think he's got my chances of getting a job there - absolutely zero. No MA's gonna kill his chances when he tries to even get his job app read - right? He thinks he's got the equivalent in his Eng related jobs but I don't reckon, much as it'd be cool to have him working in Japan.

Any J vets like to comment?

Seriously, your friend should just get out of teaching Enrigh all together if possible. His chances of getting a job at a college here are next to zero. Same goes for ALT work. The fact is, even for people in Japan with years of experience the market is very tough right now. Maybe he'll be able to get a job at an eikaiwa but it will also be a shitty situation and the pay is getting so bad at those places he'll probably make the same or less as he does in Korea with much higher living costs. My friend just left a business English teaching job in Tokyo. The owner of the school was telling him that he's getting resumes like he's never seen before. People with PhD's and Harvard grads. It just shows you how horrible the job situation is worldwide right now.

Shit - that's the blunt truth right there! Appreciate the unvarnished fucking truth. I wouldn't even think of jobs like that cause my cv's the type that if I wasn't in Japan for some years now I'd have to go for the crappiest hagwon job in Korea and even then probably wouldn't get it.:blush3:

Tough for my mate, he did a lot of stuff that most people I meet in Japan have never done but it seems like he should have done the MA course he was offered back in the day but didn't do.
