my own english is far, far from perfect, and i'd never claim it to be so.

i've little use for capitalization in informal discussion, others may feel differently, maybe even passionately so. is it this to which you're referring or was my post above so horribly written as to be unintelligible?

misspellings and the misuse of hononyms annoy me. the more basic the error, the more annoying it is to see. honestly, how difficult is it to use "you're" and "your" or to not pluralize with an apostrophe?

i certainly don't expect everyone on fark or an internet forum to write like a nobel laureate but it'd be nice to see more people getting more of the basics correct.

What is it with everyone under 25 these days? Have years of incessant texting on their mobile phones rendered them incapable of typing capital letters and apostrophes?

Sorry, I'll type properly from now on. On forums, I usually type quickly, so punctuation and capitalization is lost.

I don't consider myself an English or Nihongo Nazi either, and a few punctuation typos may not be the end of the world, but when somebody declares that he'll/she'll be teaching English (if not eikaiwa, then what, English classical literature?) - and they don't seem to have the slightest grasp of basic English grammar, I cringe...
some recent examples:
"so punctuation and capitalization is lost."
"im excited to do it..."
The above reads like Dubya-speak.
Although English is a 2nd (or 3rd or 4th) language for some of the FGs here, they all seem to do a lot better than that..

Thanks pointing it out.
"so punctuation and capitalization are lost."

"im excited to do it..." <<< That is from before, when I was typing hastily.

Is opportunity knocking for Engrish teachers?

. . .legions of Japanese businessmen, or "salarymen," struggling with a language they thought they had left behind them in school as fears mount that the growing push by Japanese companies into overseas business will mean a dark future for them without usable English. This is especially true these days, with the strong yen and a lagging domestic market prompting more firms to look overseas for business opportunities essential for their bottom lines.

"I had a business trip to Amsterdam last year and that really was tough. My boss spoke no English, and I had to speak English for the first time in 10 years," said Masahide Tachibana, a 39-year-old software developer.
Tachibana now gets up at 5:00 a.m. to take morning lessons at a central Tokyo branch of Gaba, an English language school.

"I've always wanted to brush up my English and that business trip ignited my aspirations," said Tachibana, as around him other businessmen and women pack up and hurry to work after their 45-minute, one-on-one lessons.

Japan, despite being the world's third-largest economy and a major export powerhouse, is known for its poor English-speaking ability even though six years of study are required in middle and high school.

The country's average score on the TOEFL iBT, a computer-based test of English as a foreign language, in 2010 ranked 27th among 30 Asian countries, below Mongolia and Turkmenistan.

Perhaps, but not through Gaba(ge). The best part of the article was the comment down the bottom by Jeffs.
