Job Interview Tomorrow

Postby Big Booger » Tue Mar 23, 2004 10:47 pm

I have a job interview tomorrow. I am rather nervous but have prepared. It is for a teaching position, so we'll see how that goes. The contract will be either for 3 or 6 years if I get the position and it comes with an apartment already sorted out for me. I have competition so I am whipping out the Booger Blaster and gonna blow the other losers out of the water.. I have prepared a portfolio, bought a new shirt and tie, shined the shoes, and the works.. Will update.. I have a feeling I won't get the job though for some strange reason.

Tis my third year on the JET set program. :D No chance for renewal. This new job is working for a local board of education doing essentially the same job only going from the high school to the junior high school level. We'll see if that works out. In the meantime I'll be going for the Master's and then looking to teach at a University. By then I should have enough saved up to return to the states and build a home with a nice 100-200 acre yard.

Best of luck to you man! I hope you get the job and I'll burn a cnadle, incense and a Dollar Bill for ya! (figure i'd cover all the gods that way!)

(BTW, did you know that if you hit the Escape key while your cursor is at the end of your post, you'll delete everything? Thank Bhob for 'ctrl-z')

Well I just returned home from the interview. I think it went well. There was a small snag, like the distance drive from where I work to where my wife works, and how difficult that might be.. as the apartment is included in the deal.. but the salary is actually better than I expected, and the benefits are better too.. (they rent all the furnishings for the apartment {aircon, fridge, washing machine, and so on} and the apartment rent is included as a benefit.

I had a 1 hour interview, the first 20 minutes was with 3 interviewers 1 from the board and 2 from other local ministries. They asked basic things like how do I like Japan, how good is my Japanese, do I drive at my current job, how would I feel about cycling to work, and so on..

They asked about my interests and about the state that I am from.. I tried to speak mostly in English as I felt that is why I was there (don't know if that was correct or not but I did it anyway.)

Then the latter 40 minutes was with the BOE member. He explained the job in more detail, told me of the benefits, asked me if I had any questions and so on.. So I asked a few, and he answered. Then we left, he walked me to the parking garage and we chatted along the way.

I'll be notified by the end of the month.. somehow I think if I fail, it's because of the wife's job being so far away from where I'd work, because the sort of focused on that for a while. Even though I assured them I and my wife had discussed it and she'd be fine with a 1.5 hour commute (short -term)... we'll see..

I don't know why Japanese teachers cannot transfer for 3 years.. when they are new teachers???? Doesn't make a whole bunch of sense to me but that's just the way it is I guess.
