tatoos and job at office ?

Postby timmitimmi » Wed Mar 24, 2004 5:38 am

hello all !

At the moment I'm working for Nokia, I'm specialized in coding interfaces/ui for the cell-phones..my contract period ends soon and I have had sent out resumes to the leading cell-phones producers in Japan..so far I have got three very positive answers.
anyways..I have a tattoo (kinda tribal style) which covers most of my back and goes up to half on the neck. ..my question is that does it makes harder to getting a job in Japan..is it big factor on the job interview ?
good or bad...what could be their reactions on such of exposed tattoos ?

After working and hiring for more than 20 years in the fetid bowels of Japan Inc, I can tell ya the old-line Japanese companies like NEC, Fujitsu, NTT, et al ain't gonna like a mongo tribal neck tat at all. However, if you really can do the job well, they'll look the other way cause you're just an alien which is weirder than any tattoo you could dream up.

Sony has engineers with tats but it's not common as long hair. For the interview, I'd say wear turtleneck and liquid cover for black eyes over the tat. Then surprise them your first day. They won't fire ya if you're worth a shit. If you actually are "kinda tribal" looking racially, they won't hastle you at all so lie and say you're 1/2 Carib.
Alternatively, just make some additions to your tat to make it a kanji. Image

The CARP COLORS fell in the CRAPPER last night. Now I can get a real FOMA keitai.

heh..I just don't like Nokia..it lacks of everything...treats the workers like shit...especially when the deadline shows up..but it's quite common everwhere I guess :) anyways..I'm looking for new working environment and changes...that's it.

well...I guess I must pretend that I'm ill...will twirl a warm scarf around the neck or something...heh

as pointed out of Taro... incase they are looking for some hard working coders I guess they take anyone whos available (even the ones who begs like "will code for food" or "will do anything for food" lol :)

will see...

Ditto on DoCoMo.
Right now I'm doing on the DoCoMo FOMA manual, and EVERYONE is so damn smart. Typically, old-line Japanese electronic firms are filled with fake "system engineers" without any skills. But hot-damn, everybody in DoCoMo is so genki and clever--- it's a shock to my system.

I think they might "give a shit" if somebody showed up with one of these in a Nokia Japan office...

Just goes to show that people with all that shit on their face can bend over just as well as the next guy. Actually, I've found that people with piercing and tats are usually even bigger phoneys than people with conservative fashions.
