Teach English in Japan for a School Year
The Phoenix Sister Cities Commission is seeking college graduates for an opportunity to live and work abroad in our sister city of Himeji, Japan, during the 2005-06 school year.
The first position available, assistant English teacher will work as an assistant to Japanese instructors teaching English at the junior high school level. Recent college graduates with limited previous teaching experience are eligible to apply. College transcripts and a copy of the diploma or proof of graduation date are required at the time of the interview.
The second available position is assistant supervising teacher of English, which will include designing lesson plans with assistance from Japanese teachers and teaching English in the classroom at the senior high school level. Classroom and ESL teaching experience, plus a current Arizona teaching certificate, is required. A resume and copy of your college diploma are required at the time of the interview.
The terms of employment will be from Sept. 1, 2005, through Aug. 31, 2006, with an option to renew for one additional year at the request of the Himeji City Board of Education. Airfare to and from Japan and local transportation within Himeji also will be paid by the Himeji City Board of Education.
Wages for the assistant language teacher position range from 300,000 - 340,000 yen per month (approximately $2,513 - $2,849 U.S.), depending on experience. The assistant supervising teacher position will earn 410,000 yen per month (approximately $3,435 U.S.).
The contract also provides a brand new, city owned Western-style apartment house for 11,700 yen per month for a single family size apartment and 23,400 yen per month for a double size.
